3D Modeling, Compositing, Animation Software Comparison

Thought this might be helpful for potential 3d artists wanting to develop in 3d environment. Though the artcle was written in 2007, it talks about some important facts that any potential 3d animator, modeler should keep in mind. No one 3d tool is or can be said the best, it can be best for modeling or animation. Or it can be best for rendering, while some other is best at only visual effects and particle system. There is a chart in this page that shows the basic comparisons between several industry's top 3d applications.

Raider (member of DD), a friend of mine was saying Houdini is the new upcoming 3d powerhouse software thats going to challenge Maya and Max. The company Side FX creator of Houdini, so far was involved in The Dark Knight movie, Killzone 2 (PS3 game) on certain things like particle system, and object modeling using brand new techniques that is far better than Maya and Max.
