One of the most important aspects of a design is how well the colors are rendered when viewed on our displays and especially when the design is created in one system with one type of setup but is being viewed in another system with a different setup altogether. By the term setup I mean different displays, graphics cards or sometimes the same design application of a different version. We often find to our disbelief that the colors used in the design turned out entirely different in the system we are viewing in. Fortunately, there’s a solution to it!

Most desktop publishing tools like Adobe’s Photoshop and Illustrator contain their own set of color profiles . If you want to view your document in a different computer that does not have the exact color profile or rather your custom profile, then follow these steps:

1. To save a copy of your custom color profile from Adobe Illustrator CS2 click Edit -> Color Settings -> Select the desired color profile from the “Settings” pull-down box. Now, click on the Save button and save it in a location of your choice. Remember where you have saved it as you will need to copy it later.
2. Go to the directory or location where you have saved the profile. These profile have the extension “.csf”.
3. Copy the “.csf” file from this location to the target computer’s(the system where you wish to port your profile to) directory.
4. The directory where you should paste the file is “C:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\Adobe\Color\Settings” where “C:\…” is your widows or system drive and “User” is your username account in Windows XP.
5. Restart Illustrator CS2 and now you should be able to select the profile you have just pasted appears under the Color Setting’s “Settings” option.
