In this Photoshop tips & tricks tutorial, we're going to look at some handy tricks and keyboard shortcuts for working with Photoshop text. We'll be looking at things like how to quickly select words, lines and paragraphs, how to easily switch between fonts, how to quickly access bold and italic font styles, leading, tracking and kerning, resizing, aligning and justifying text, and more!
Selecting All Text On A Type Layer

All of this text is on a single Type layer in the Layers palette. To select all the text on a Type layer, simply double-click directly on the Type layer's thumbnail:

Selecting A Single Word
To quickly select an entire word in Photoshop, simply double-click directly on the word. Here I've double-clicked on the word "photograph":

Selecting An Entire Line Of Text
To quickly select an entire line of text, just triple-click anywhere on the line. Here I've triple-clicked on the second line of text from the top:

Selecting An Entire Paragraph
To quickly select an entire paragraph of text, quadruple-click anywhere on the paragraph. Here I've quadruple-clicked on the first paragraph to select it:

Instantly Make Text Bold
If you need to make some text bold, simply highlight the text with your mouse and press Ctrl+Shift+B (Win) / Command+Shift+B (Mac):

Instantly Italicize Text
To instantly italicize text, simply highlight it and then press Ctrl+Shift+I (Win) / Command+Shift+I (Mac):

Superscript Text
To superscript text, highlight it and then press Ctrl+Shift++ (Win) / Command+Shift++ (Mac):

Subscript Text

Strike-Thru Text
To strike-thru text, highlight it and then press Ctrl+Shift+Alt++ (Win) / Command+Shift+Option++ (Mac):

Adjust Baseline Shift
To raise or lower the baseline shift by 2 points, hold down Shift+Alt (Win) / Shift+Option (Mac) and use the Up or Down arrow keys on your keyboard:

Convert Text To Small Caps

Quickly Resizing Type
To enlarge or reduce the size of your type by 2 points, highlight the text, hold down Ctrl+Shift (Win) / Command+Shift (Mac) and press the < or > keys on your keyboard:

To quickly adjust the leading (the amount of space between two or more lines of text) by 2 points, simply highlight the lines you want to adjust, hold down Alt (Win) / Option (Mac) and use the Up or Down arrow keys on your keyboard:

To quickly adjust tracking (the space between groups of letters or entire lines of text) by 20 em, highlight the lines you want to adjust, hold down Alt (Win) / Option (Mac) and use the Left or Right arrow keys on your keyboard:

To quickly adjust tracking by 100 em, highlight the lines you want to adjust, hold down Ctrl+Alt (Win) / Command+Option (Mac) and use the Left or Right arrow keys:

Quickly Adjust Kerning (Space Between Two Letters)
To quickly adjust kerning (the space between two letters) by 20 em, simply click your mouse between the two letters you want to adjust (no need to highlight them), hold down Alt (Win) / Option (Mac) and use the Left or Right arrow keys on your keyboard:

Left-Justify Text

Center-Align Text

Right-Justify Text

Preview Your Text With Different Fonts
To easily preview what your text would look like with different fonts, with the Type layer selected in the Layers palette, simply click on the font selection option in the Options Bar at the top of the screen, then use your Up or Down arrow keys to have your text switch between fonts:
