My opinion on meaning of logos:
If 3 Stripes, Tick and Rabbit sysmbols immediatey give you the idea of Adidas, Nike and Playboy consequently then what's wrong by knowing that they don't have any meaning. Unfortunately they got meaning when those were developed. It is not necessary for a symbol/logo to carry the direct maning of what the company does. May be it can carry the spiritual meaning which is not obvious to us but serves as their way. When a company got so many different products its hard incorporate all in a logo unless you attempt like UNILEVER. Even the logos Amit posted, all have their own meaning when they were developed on that time. You can find few of them from here:

5 2 % The name is 6 letters or less
5 2 % The background is filled and solid
4 4 % The name uses upper & lower case (excluding ACRONYMS)
4 4 % The pronunciation includes three sounds/syllables
4 0 % The predominant colour base is blue
5 4 % The logo design includes the trademark symbol and its placed in the top right
